3 Things NOT To Do On LinkedIn!
Communication has never been easier! If you want to speak to someone, all you have to do is send them a message online!
The power we hold with a smartphone and an internet connection is essentially limitless! LinkedIn is by far the most popular social media tool to network and I’ve been very fortunate to meet some incredible people through it.
However, with great power comes great responsibility. Here are some things that you shouldn’t do!
I.Send an invite without a note
This is just plain good manners. If you’re reaching out to someone you’ve never met or spoken to, you MUST tell them why you’re reaching out.
2 lines are enough, takes 30 seconds and the chances of your invite being accepted will go up drastically.
Here’s a template - “Hey XYZ, I see you’re a marketing professional, I’d love to connect with you to discuss and learn more about the industry.”
II.Ask for something on the first contact
Everyone loves being treated with respect. By asking for something (referral, job, etc) the first time, you’ll create the impression that you’re just there to use them. Build a relationship first! No one likes feeling used. If someone is willing to give you their time and attention, give them the respect they deserve.
III.Ghost them
After you’ve met them, don’t disappear. Drop a personalized thank you note. Again it takes 30 seconds but goes a long way in establishing your credibility!
LinkedIn is a stellar tool to build your network and more people are willing to chat than you’d think. Be polite and respectful and you’ll find the world truly is your oyster!
