On Writing

I made this website when I was doing my MBA, as a way to stand out during job applications. It was meant to be a static one pager, that has now ballooned into points around.

A website let me showcase myself outside of just the resume, so I started brainstorming how to use this to sell myself. I loved my time in business school but boy do we spend a lot of time feeling full of ourselves. Using a gazillion frameworks, I decided to “position myself as a sales leader” At that time, I had worked for 3 years, I was very good at it but to talk as an authority was NOT it. Ironically, I feel even less like an authority now than I did when I was younger (Wisdom?!)

So I decided to start writing BuzzFeed style listicles but about sales. You know how they say younger you should make you feel cringe, thinking about it gives me shudders. Those articles didn’t open any doors for me BUT they did give me confidence to write and post online. They were super generic blogs but the way I look at it now is, I was putting out some content rather than no content.

There are different schools of thought on churning out quantity vs slow and mindful quality content. What works well for me is to just start putting out some type of content before I find my voice to focus on quality content. I’d like to think my writing now is shorter but has a clear point versus random regurgitated text blocks that are just there. It is the same thing with my podcast, 13 episodes in, I’m learning to structure episodes better, ask questions that encourage conversation, and edit better.

Oh, and finding my voice meant realizing I don't want to write about ‘13 ways to be a good seller’ and running a podcast for tech bros that talk about B2B SaaS

A year from now, things might(definitely) change but that’s okay, that’s the journey!
